GOOD TO KNOWS

A spot to add to a lot of FAQ's. As they pop up, I will continue to update and eventually reorder this page. I hope you find what you're looking for... if not, please ask Moderators in the help channel. (P.s. Ctrl + F will help you search.)

BRIARNET

The location of the university prevents any external connections from entering the campus. As a result, a recent innovation has provided the castle with its own intranet. This means students and faculty are capable of communicating through this network but are otherwise unable to surf the web as one would typically do.

Servers have been pre-loaded with information at the start of the year which includes information available from the onsite Library. Students would be required to download any media from the beginning of the year to be able to use it.. eg. Spotify playlists.

The students on the campus have learned to send eachother files through ancient systems known as "bluetooth." CDs and DVDs once again have purpose.

GLAMOURS

The Term 'Glamour' is a blanket term for any means necessary for a supernatural individual to appear as human to any other else.

'Seals' are a type of glamour that hide wings from prying eyes. Often these seals manifest as runes, or if the user is skilled enough, tattoos. These are light weight and do not take an excruciating amount of time, ranging from an hour to three hours.

Charms may be employed for the likes of hair colour, or disguising certain characteristics. These are light weight and do not take an excruciating amount of time, ranging from an hour to three hours.

For others, these glamours may differ.

For example, Merfolk would require a series of complex magics' to enable them to walk on land. These charms will take additional time to craft and secure. They are sometimes instead stored into an item, like jewellery to assist the individual in time keeping.  These full body glamours that provide a significant physical change to the individual may take several days to construct.

VAMPIRE SYNTHETIC SOLUTIONS

Briar Ridge strives to meet the dietary requirement of all individuals within the campus. As such, donated and synthetic blood options have been provided to vampires. This synthetic solution generally provides the same level of nutrients. The solution was created by a chemist and author Marshall Brooks in order to remove the guilt that often partners itself with feeding.  It is however known that the synthetic bloods are not a ‘one size fits all’ solution, often being unsatisfying to some vampires.

If a student wishes to try alternatives, the University provides a safety net and will assist in the transition periods. Should any unfavourable reactions occur, the student will be admitted to the hospital wing for treatment.

BASIC CHARMS

Within the Briar Ridge Universe, every individual is capable of using small charms at the very least. It is up to the roleplayer how good (or bad) the character is at getting the desired results.

To give example these charms might be simple tricks such as:

  • Illuminating a dark room with a small light.

  • Tracking a lost item

  • Fixing minor flaws on glamours.

  • Minor fixing charms. Repair cracks, or tears.

Witch and Wizard characters are more likely to succeed in casting these charms and can later move on to more advanced magics.
