CLUBS AND SOCIETIES

◈  Alchemy Club     

This club is dedicated to those who wish to research and expand their knowledge of the art of alchemy. Here students can pick up advanced skills in the application of the art as well as brainstorm and practice various skills to perfect their art form. This club also dives deeper into the expansion of alchemy across varied cultures and timelines. This club meets twice per week, with only one meeting per week being mandatory.

◈  Botany Club          

This club is dedicated to those who wish to research and expand their knowledge of the botanical world. Here students can pick up advanced skills in the care and cultivation of flora as well as apply their knowledge to grow and create herbs, salves, medicine, and practical tools useful in everyday life. Additionally, those in this club are in charge of the upkeep and maintenance of the university greenhouse. This club meets twice per week, with only one meeting per week being mandatory.

◈ Chess Club

This club is dedicated to the intellectual sport of chess. Students are encouraged to challenge themselves and compete to better their skill, concentration, and strategy. This club meets twice per week, with one meeting per week being mandatory. The club hosts two to three  competitive matches per school year.

◈  Culinary Club          

This club is dedicated to those who wish to learn and explore the culinary arts. Here students can pick up advanced skills in cooking, baking, and kitchen witchery. Students are welcome to experiment as well as learn directly from Chef Soren. Students are welcome to share or take their edible projects at the end of each meeting.  This club meets three times per week (a cooking day, a baking day, and a day focusing on kitchen witchery), with only one meeting per week being mandatory.

◈  Drama Club

This club is dedicated to those who have a passion for the art of theater. Briar puts on two productions per academic year: one each at the end of the fall and spring semesters. The fall production is always strictly traditional theater. If the majority rules, the spring production is occasionally voted on being an opera or musical if such talent is ample to supply a cast. This club meets three times per week immediately following the last class period of the day, and all meetings are mandatory. Tech weeks (the week leading up to the production) will be all five days of the week, also mandatory.

◈  Dueling Club

This club is dedicated to the art of combat by magical and non-magical means. The purposes of this club are for those students who wish to further their combat skills to do so in a safe, practice, and disciplined environment with careful and attentive instruction. This club meets three times per week, with one meeting per week being mandatory. The club hosts one to two intramural competitions per school year.

◈  Fine Arts Club

This club is dedicated to the study and appreciation of the fine arts of painting, sculpture, photography, and architecture. This club meets to discuss, debate, and appreciate theories of application and gives students an opportunity to showcase their personal works of art. This club meets twice per week, with only one meeting per week being mandatory.

◈  Literature Club

This club is dedicated to the study and appreciation of all works of literature, including but not limited to poetry, novels, anthologies, and short stories. This club meets to discuss and decipher meaning, discuss theories and techniques, and share their own personal works of writing should they so choose. This club meets twice per week, with only one meeting per week being mandatory.

◈  Music Club

This club is dedicated to the study, appreciation, and participation in musical practice. It is expected that all members of this club remain open to practicing/playing music they are perhaps not familiar with to allow their interests and appreciation for the art to expand. This club meets two times per week, with each meeting considered mandatory to upkeep consistency with practice. Performances will be put on as often as the club wishes, given approval is received from their club sponsor.

◈  Rowing Club

This club is dedicated to the sport of rowing or ‘crew’. This is a competitive club that hosts meets within the participating student body as well as participating schools of magical and non-magical focus. This club meets four times per week in the morning prior to the start of classes, with expected independent training on off days. Attendance at organized practice is mandatory.

◈  Rugby Club

This club is dedicated to the sport of rugby. This is a competitive club that hosts matches within the participating student body as well as participating schools of magical and non-magical focus. This club meets four times per week in the afternoon immediately following classes, with expected independent training on off days. Attendance at organized practice is mandatory.

◈  Track and Field Club

This club is dedicated to the sport of track and field. This is a competitive club that hosts meets within the participating student body as well as participating schools of magical and non-magical focus. Events include: sprint (100m, 200m, 400m), run (800m, 1500m, 3000m), relay (400m, 1600m), decathlon, high jump, long jump, pole vaulting, discus, hammer throw, shot put, and javelin throw. This club meets two times per week (depending on your chosen events) in the morning or afternoon (event depending), with expected independent training on off days. Attendance at organized practice is mandatory.

This club is dedicated to the sport of fencing. This is a competitive club that hosts matches within the participating student body as well as participating schools of magical and non-magical focus.
